New possibilities with artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) now enables solutions that seemed unrealistic just ten years ago.
– With a 30 kW power supply, Ocein's A-ROV can run all thrusters at full capacity and have additional equipment on as well, says Andreas Bakken, technical manager at Ocein.
ROV is a collective term for remotely operated underwater vehicles. In aquaculture, it's used for various jobs that need to be performed underwater. In many cases, an ROV can perform underwater jobs instead of divers. Depending on what equipment you connect to an ROV, it can perform tasks such as inspections, pick up objects, and bring ropes where you need them.

Ocein's A-ROV is designed for, and compact enough, to also be used inside the pen.
– Our ROV has no sharp edges, so it won't damage anything when it's on the job, says Andreas.
Inside the pen, it can inspect lines, nets, ropes, and moorings, both during regular interval inspections and special inspections when there's suspicion that maintenance must be performed. For example, after storms and bad weather, an A-ROV can do the inspection and report on status before you proceed to decide what needs to be done, such as before choosing to lift the net.
The A-ROV is controlled with joysticks, often mounted to a chair. On a screen, you see what the ROV sees. With up to several cameras, the ROV pilot has full overview.
The cameras can be controlled separately, they can tilt up and down and move forward and backward. With multiple cameras, you see different images simultaneously. On a touch screen with menus, you have full overview of all the ROV's applications and functions, such as system information, values, lights and cameras on and off, and which sensors you want to use, such as auto functions.
Sensors can be useful for calculating the size of objects below the surface. With an echo sounder, you can calculate depth, and with a robotic arm with grip function and more advanced controls, you can pick up objects.
At Ocein, you can customize the ROV so you get the functions you need for your work.
– In addition to being powerful relative to its size, Ocein's A-ROV has very good possibilities for connecting additional equipment, and there are few limitations to what equipment we can add, says Andreas.
It's primarily made for the aquaculture industry, but it has the functions of an offshore ROV in a more compact size. The A-ROV is sold with a standard starting point, but there will always be additional equipment and customizations that can be made. At Ocein, we offer many different options: sensors, number of cameras, hydraulics, different types of manipulators, and much more.
The A-ROV also comes with low-light function, giving you detailed overview even in deep water. There's also the option for black/white function on the screen, which is more light-sensitive and provides more contrast.
It has 1000 meters as standard depth rating, but this can be customized. There's the option to turn off all outputs for troubleshooting, this ROV is developed to have as simple maintenance as possible!
Significant investment has also been made in developing the cable reel that sits on the boat, which is very well-liked by our customers. As standard, we deliver the A-ROV with a cable reel that has 1000 meters capacity and a spooling system with tensioning. With tensioning, you'll never get slack on the reel, thus avoiding too much cable out, which saves you a lot of unnecessary cable tangles.
